Two days Directors Student Affairs workshop on Promotion of Peace and Tolerance at University Campuses of the Punjab was organized by the working group for Promotion of Peace and Tolerance and Inter University Consortium for the Promotion of Social Sciences at Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC) Faculty Development Academy on 29th & 30th November, 2017.
The consolidated recommendations of the two days’ workshop are given below:
The cultural, national, regional, sports, literary, co-curricular festivals at District and Regional will held among the students from various regions of Punjab.
The workshops will be conducted for students to provide them proper perspectives for promotion of peace, tolerance and conflict resolution.
The provision of equal opportunities will be provided to all the students to pursue their academic, co-curricular, sports related goals.
The provision of various facilities will be made available such as career counselling, psychological and physical health issues through student’s service centers.
The training workshops for hostel wardens, proctors and faculty will be arranged to sensitize them about the cultural, ethnic and sectarian sensitivities.
The essay /story/poetry writing contests will be ensured for healthy competition.
The speech /debate / MUN events will be arranged and conducted for dissemination information on Preventing Violent Extremism (PVE) students.
The sports festivals will be carried out for engaging students in their leisure time.
The painting /poster making events will be displayed for creating interest amongst students on countering violent extremism.
The seminars /Walks will be held to project various social / international causes for getting students involved in creating awareness amongst the people
The budget will be allocated for various activities referred to above proportionate to students’ strength of a certain University.
The arrangement of various activities would be made at the regional/ provincial/ national levels for successful implementation of Preventing Violent Extremism (PVE) agenda.
The start-up Cup will be held for promotion of toleration amongst the students.
The services of Social Media Mela / Summit will be hired for coverage of the proceedings of the workshop as well as recording of interview of key peace speakers.
The training will be imparted to the office bearer of all societies of the region on structure, functions and resources.
The endowment conferences for fund raising will be launched for financing the mass awareness campaign.
DICE innovative Business Project Exhibition will be formulated and implemented with hope of getting encouraging outcome.
WhatsApp group of regional universities will be created for communication and liaison amongst the students about measures to counter violent extremism.
The Open Mind Forum for general students will be made for free discussion leading to promotion of peace and toleration in academia.
The strict implementation of Discipline Rules by University Management will be ensured for compliance amongst the staff and students.
One-o-One Student counselling will be carried out to promote de-radicalization.
One Stop Solution for non-academic and academic issues will be suggested to avoid repetition of such issues.
The scientific study on effectiveness of student societies will conducted to explore ways for countering violence and extremism.
The strenuous efforts will be made to minimize political interference from inside and outside universities.
PHEC will be approached for funding to DSA office activities towards promotion of peace andtoleration in academia.
The peace proctors will be produced on sustainable basis at departmental level.
The district management will be approached to extend all possible help to university authority’s to address students’ issues with regard to violence and disturbance.
The collaboration will be ensured with each other to get benefit out of experiences of other universities.

A course titled “Social & Religious Tolerance” of 02 credit hours will be introduced in universities for educating minds of the students about values of peace, tolerance and responsible citizenship.
