About us

History Of IUCPSS

IUCPSS Pakistan was established on 23 January 2012 in Bahawalpur, Pakistan. Professor Dr. Muhammad Mukhtar, then Vice Chancellor of the Islamia University of Bahawalpur (July 2010 – July 2014) was appointed as Founding Chairperson of this consortium.
The areas of cooperation under the consortium initially envisaged were faculty development/faculty exchange and appointment of scholars as adjunct faculty members on reciprocal basis among the member institutions, exchange of students & scholars, organising/initiating joint research projects, linkages with other national & international organisations, joint seminars/conferences & workshops and other academic/co- curricular activities, sharing of facilities/expertise among the consortium members, diploma/certificate, courses on civic/human rights education and other important issues and programs of mutual interest. It was also agreed that with the consent of participating institutions new avenues of collaborative activities will also be explored.
The consortium has signed MoUs with many public and private organisations for undertaking collaborative efforts and programs for the promotion of social sciences in Pakistan. In recognition of its contribution, the consortium has been honoured with the Diplomatic Excellence Award 2015 and Civic Education Award 2016, and Peace Award 2019.

Our Mission

The mission of IUCPSS is to build a bridge among policymakers, implementers, leaders at the state and government levels with academicians to cultivate informed dialogue and decisions leading to actions for the development of higher education in Pakistan through effective engagements, communications, research, exchange programs, policy advice, workshops, training, events, expos, raising awareness and creating lasting networks.

Our Vision

IUCPSS aims to promote Peace, Tolerance, Cohesion, Civic Education, Religious Harmony, and Co-curricular activities at university campuses by organizing workshops, training, expos, and other related events.

Key Achievements

A 42-members (19 parliamentarians, 20 senior academics & 3 civil society experts) Special Joint Working Group of Academia and Parliamentarians have been formed to develop research and advocacy agendas on SDGs and Human Rights and make recommendations fostering cooperation among academia, civil society, and parliamentarians.
Recently collaborated with Federal Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training, Government of Pakistan and Association of Private Sector Universities Pakistan to organise 7 Regional Roundtable Sessions on Pakistan’s Education Policy 2021 in consultation with the higher education leadership and stakeholders in Lahore, Islamabad, Multan, Peshawar, Sukkur, Karachi, and Quetta.
Developed Pakistan’s first-ever Roadmap on Strengthening Social Sciences in Pakistan at Gwadar in 2013, including promoting peace and active citizenship among the university students.
Successfully launched a first-ever indigenous online course on Civic Education and Public Health for youth during the outbreak of COVID-19.
Organised three successful editions of International Student Conventions and Expo since December 2018 at Islamabad, Lahore, and Karachi with the active participation of thousands of students from more than 100 universities across Pakistan.
Organised Asia’s first-ever Social Sciences Expo in collaboration with Jang Media Group, the largest media group in Pakistan, on 24-25th February 2016
Organised first ever two editions of Student Art and Literary Festivals at Lahore and Karachi in 2019 with the active involvement of campus-based student societies.
Collaborated in organising the first-ever Multan Literary Festival with the active involvement of universities, local and national literary organisations.
Developed Pakistan’s first-ever Roadmap on Strengthening Social Sciences in Pakistan at Gwadar in 2013, including promoting peace and active citizenship among the university students.
Since 2013, organised several Vice-Chancellors Conferences, Regional and National Stakeholders Consultations, Conferences, Seminars, and other related events on important policy issues related to higher education, academic freedom, strengthening student societies, promoting values of peace, tolerance, harmony among students, and student- centric policies.
Designed and organized several faculty training programs across Pakistan.

Award Recognition

  • IUCPSS is awarded with Diplomatic Excellence Award 2015 by the Institute of Peace and Diplomatic Studies (IPDS), Islamabad, in acknowledgment of its contribution towards policy-making, diplomacy, peace, and development in Pakistan.
  • In recognition of promoting civic education in Pakistan, IUCPSS was conferred with Civic Education Award 2016 by the Centre for Civic Education Pakistan.
  •  In recognition of untiring efforts and contribution for promoting peace, tolerance, harmony, and co-curricular activities at university campuses the National Coordinator of IUCPSS is awarded with the Peace Award during a special ceremony on National Youth Conference held at International Islamic University Islamabad.
